Abstract: "The language of the inscription reflects Hebrew legal terminology and the phrase eauto aitios estai is equivalent to mthyyb bnpsw. The meaning of this term in the context of sacrilegious felonies is ""death at the hands of Heaven' (myth bydy smym). This punishment, according to the evidence of Mishnah and Tosefta, was administered by the priestly authorities of the Temple through summary execution, since the trespasser was already subject to the death penalty. The meaning g of the clause dia to exakolouthein thanaton corresponds to this procedure, and it was applied in the case of Paul in Acts 21:28-31. The inscription was formulated by the priestly administrators of the Temple who were also responsible for its purification. Therefore, they also exercised jurisdiction over those who profaned the Temple by their trespass."
