| Title: On Some Papyri and Josephus' Source and Chronology for the Persian Period Pages: 175-199 Type: Generic Year: 1990 Abstract: "Grâce aux découvertes papyrologiques d'Éléphantine, on peut contester les datations données par Josèphe dans les cinquante premiers paragraphes des Antiquités, 11. // Long before the Wadi Daliyeh discoveries scholars who studied Josephus' Ant. 11:297-347 suspected that there had been a second Sanballat in Alexander's time, a descendant of the one of Nehemiah's day (see Neh 13:28). Some believed Josephus with regard to the intermarriage as well, while others viewed the existence of a second Sanballat as the source of the confusion that caused Josephus to misdate by a century the intermarriage of Nehemiah's day. The latter position is more likely in view of Josephus' lack of knowledge about the chronology of the Persian period, his use of originally unlinked sources, and the historical probabilities. - D.J.H."
