Some believed Josephus with regard to the intermarriage as well, while others viewed the existence of a second Sanballat as the source of the confusion that caused Josephus to misdate by a century the intermarriage of Nehemiah's day. The latter position is more likely in view of Josephus' lack of knowledge about the chronology of the Persian period, his use of originally unlinked sources, and the historical probabilities. - D.J.H."
