Title: History of the Samaritans
Secondary Title: BEAT 18
Author: Schur, Nathan
Type: Generic
Year: 1992
Abstract: "This history of the Samaritans from biblical times to the present is divided into six ""books"": the OT period; the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods; the medieval period (A.D. 635-1516); the early Ottoman period; the 19th century; and the 20th century. The second ""book"" treats (among other topics) Alexander the Great and the cult center on Mount Gerizim; the spread of Samaritan settlement; the Samaritan Diaspora; Samaritan religious beliefs, customs, and practices; the Samaritan synagogue; and Samaritan sects. An appendix lists the Samaritan high priests since the beginning of the Ottoman period. Schur concludes that Samaritanism survived because it was a special fusion of religious and national elements, as in Judaism. - 2nd. Edition"
