The careful and uncorrupted practice of justice remained an important issue in the period after the composition of the bible as well. In this essay S. discusses the biblical background of the prohibition of judicial corruption, and then turn to the Temple Scroll Philo, Josephus, the Tannaitic discussions, and Amoraic evidence regarding judicial corruption. S. concludes that all of these sources prohibit judicial corruption. He further shows that it is the Tempe Scroll alone which legislate that the offense be punished b< death while the other sources specify no particular punishment."
