Abstract: "First published in 1988 as Beiheft 27 to History and Theory, this volume presents nine essays on various aspects of the history of Judaism portrayed through theories of history writings. The two articles most pertinent to the NT period are by S.J.D. Cohen on history and historiography in Josephus' Against Apion and J. Neusner on Judaic uses of history in talmudic times. The other contributors are R. Chazan, E. Chiesa, L. Jacobs, R. Binfil, N. Zenon Davis, Rapaport-Albert, and M.A. Meyer. Also included are a ten-page introduction by Neusner, and his review of M.A. Meyer (ed.), Ideals of Jewish History (1974)"
