Abstract: "The Jewish Antiquities of Josephus are Greek in conception and from, but present Jewish biblical history on its own terms. // It would be wrong to dismiss as insignificant the Greek literary form of ""archaeology"" in which Josephus' Antiquities is clothed. But we cannot escape the conclusion that, at least in the way he conceived of the biblical part of his undertaking, this Jewish writer was less of a Greek historian than he may appear at first sight, and that he expected his Greek readers to accept the early history of the Jews on his terms rather than theirs. - D.J.H. // It would be wrong, in the end, to dismiss as insignificant the Greek form in which Josephus' product is clothed, after all, to achieve a kind of Hellenization is central to his whole enterprise, and a reconciliation of the tow nations is, as we know, his ultimate aim. But we cannot escape the conclusion that, at least in the why he conceives of the Biblical part of his undertaking, this Jewish writer is less of a Greek historian than he appears at first sight, and that he expects his Greek readers so accept the early history of the Jews on his terms, and not on theirs."
