Yet Josephus simply ignored much of the scriptural data concerning the classical prophets. Without adding anything essentially new or distinctive to the biblical portrait of these figures - various of whose features he simply systematized and accentuated - Josephus failed to do full justice to the richness of his scriptural model's presentation of them". - D.J. "Verf. behandelt Antiq. IX-XI. Obgleich Josephus am Phänomen Prophetie besonders interessiert war, beschäftigt er sich vornehmlich nur mit Jona, Nahum, Jesaja und Jeremia. Andere Propheten werden nur beiläufig erwähnt. Weil Antiq. als Geschichtsbuch gemeint war, wendete Josephus sich zuallererst den prophetischen Büchern zu, in denen narratives Material vorhanden ist. Seine besondere Vorliebe galt Jeremia, weil er eigenes Schicksal in ihm wiedererkannte. Er vermied möglichst die Bücher, in denen nur prophetische Orakel vorkommen, weil er der Meinung war, daß seine Leser diese langweilig und obskur finden würden. Nur Nahum paßte zu seiner Idee der Prophetie als alte und akkurate Vorhersage. Mit Stillschweigen übergeht er die Berufungsberichte der Propheten, ihre soziale Predigt, ihre messianischen Weissagungen und ihre Kritik am Tempel und Kult". Keywords: Antiquities |
