With reference to selected passages in Deut. 16-19 Type: Generic Year: 1995 Abstract: "The goal of this thesis is to provide a small contribution towards the whole picture, so far as it is recoverable, of how biblical law was represented and developed in Jewish writings in the period between the completion of the Pentateuch and rabbinic literature. The thesis presents three systematic studies of the representation and development of Deut. 16.18-20, 17.6 par., 17.8-13. The principal sources for the study are as follows: LXX Deut., the Temple Scroll, the Damascus Document, Josephus, and Philo of Alexandria. Particular attention is given to Josephus as a creative interpreter of biblical law in his own right." Keywords: Interpretation of the Bible in Ancient Judaism |
