Title: Le judaisme ancien et la Bible
Author: Paul, André
Type: Generic
Year: 1987
Abstract: "The title is not misleading, but neither does it five any clue; it is not about the Ezra-community nor about rabbinic Judaism; but contains much about Josephus, the Septuagint, and Qumran. // After an introduction to ancient Judaism, this volume focuses on three approaches to Scripture: the double Torah of Moses (rabbinism), the one and perfect Torah (Qumranism), and the return to Scripture alone (Qaraism). Then it considers the Hellenic world opened to the Jewish people: Greek translations of the Bible before the Septuagint, Torah and wisdom vis-à-vis the Hellenistic world, and 3 Maccabees (1987). Next it treats Flavius Josephus as a true Jew, his account of creation in Antiquities (1986), and Antiquities as an anti-Christian manifesto [§ 30-430]. The final section deals with the Greek Bible of Aquila and the ideology of ancient Judaism (1987), the transition from the myth of Masada to the ideology of the Third Temple, and the origin and development of apocalypticism. Paul stresses the differences between Judaism and Christianity, and describes them as ""false twins."""
