Harrington, Daniel J. in: NTAb 42.2 (1998), 342-343: "Based on a systematic study of Josephus' use of the Pentateuch in the first four books of his antiquities, the article argues that he translated from much used library books in Hebrew contenting many learned corrections and glosses. The first library in which the scrolls were written, stored, corrected, and used until A.D. 70 was most probably the Temple archive. The text-type was quite close to the Hebrew source of the Septuagint. But, strangely enough, this supposedly well known Greek translation of the Pentateuch was not available to him, at leas not before the last stages of his work, though he knew and quoted Letter of Arises, which expounds at length the story of the translation and gives it all due authority".
