Abstract: "Nodet, professor of Intertestamental Literature at the École Biblique de Jérusalem and editor-translator of Books I-V in Josephus' Antiquities argues that for the material corresponding to the Pentateuch Josephus used not a pre-existing Greek version but rather a Hebrew text (probably from the archives of the Jerusalem Temple) that was much closer to the Vorlage of the Septuagint than to the Masoretic text. After raising the question and delineating its solution, he gathers and classifies the data under four headings: text in which Josephus are parallel and depend on the same Hebrew original; and Josephus' singular readings vis-à-vis the Masoretic, Septuagint, and Samartian text. Finally he offers a restoration of Josephus' Hebrew text for various words and phrases in the Pentateuch".
