Abstract: Ruiten, J.T.A.G.M. van in: JSJ 29.2 (1998), 209: "Josephus has reworded 2 Kings 8:25-10:36 and has put it in the context of Ant. Jud. In such a way that Jehu appears as a positive figure. Jehu is presented as defender of the patria ethn and the threskeia of Israel. Jehu is an opponent of paranomia and asebema. He fights against the pseudoprophetai who led Israel astray. His acts of violence are in accordance with God's plans. The negative aspects of Jehu are omitted or tempered. Josephus' reworking of the biblical account of Jehu has an apologetic function. He presents Judaism as a religion that tries to keep its own identity, but this religion is not rebellious or violent. It is a reliable part for the non-Jewish political authorities. Some additions to the investigations of Begg are given: IX.125 is in accordance with MT 2 Kings 10:1c; there are concoctions between IX.105 [and IX.117] and LXX 2 Kings 9:16c, between IX.121 and the addition of LXX L in 2 Kings 9:29, and between IX.136 with the addition of LXX L in 2 Kings 10:23e. IX.117 does not contain a reception of Targum 2 Kings 9:20e. Against Niese, the authors state that the 1524 edition of Ant. Jud. Is not better than other editions".
