Abstract: "The question about the content of the first Bible of the Church, the Old Testament, is not only a question about the number of books reckoned canonical. It is also a question about the presentation of the text in the different books. Discussing some passage in Aristeas concerning the circumstances around the translation of the Pentateuch into Greek, the retelling of the legend by Philo and Josephus and the evidence of Qumran and the New Testament for the non-existence of the legend by Philo and Josephus and the evidence of Qumran and the New Testament for the Sepuagint not so much as a textwitness of an underlying Hebrew text as of a living tradition, where the holy text also survived in a re-interpretation of it. His conclusion is, that the Septuagint textform is just as relevant as the Biblia Hebraica as the Old Testament text of the church of the New Testament, which is not irrelevant for an translation of the Bible".
