"The article examines the treatment of Zedekiah in Josephus' Antiquities 10:102-154 in terms of its similarities and differences with the various biblical data. That Zedekiah was a personage of some importance to Josephus is clear from the length of the segment devotes to his reign, which incorporates a considerable portion of the dispersed biblical material. Drawing on and amplifying indications found in Jeremiah's presentation of Zedekiah, Josephus makes Judah's last king a virtual Aristotelian tragic hero. Josephus also develops his account of Zedekiah's rule so that it echoes, positively or negatively, features of previous reigns and thereby becomes a kind of recapitulation of the whole course of the monarchical period". - C.R.M.
