Abstract: Begg, Christopher R. in: OTA 20.2 (1997), 305: "M. begins by noting the literary and inscriptional evidence for a widespread interest in Judaism on the part of Roman pagans of the first century A.D., an interest that extended to actual conversion. Against this background, he argues that in his Contra Apionem Josephus' ultimate purpose is to make the case for Gentile conversion to Judaism as the supreme philosophy and source of happiness. As such the book belongs to widely attested ancient philosophical genre of the logos protrespikos".
