Abstract: Hieke, Thomas in: OTA 21.3 (1998), 510: "In Ant. 18.116-119 Josephus gives an account of John the Baptist. L. treats the agreements and the differences of this report with the picture of the Baptist in the Synoptic Gospels. In his description of John Josephus applies terms to him that he also uses in his praise of the Essenes. Both are described as righteous and pious, but Josephus does not call John an Essene, because the historian knew that the Baptist did not belong to that group. In his second part L. deals with Ant. 18.63-64, a Christian reworking of Josephus' account about Jesus, and tries to reconstruct its original version. Finally L. presents Josephus' account of the execution of James, "the brother of Jesus who was called the Christ" (Ant. 20.199-203)". Harrington, Daniel J. in: NTAb 43.1 (1999), 122: "The article presents translations and explications of Josephus' reports about Jon the Baptist (Ant. 18:116-119), Jesus (Ant. 18:63-64) and James the Lord's brother (Ant. 20:199-203), with particular attention to their historical significance and authenticity".
