Abstract: "Examines three examples of funerary portraits in Josephus (Apion 2.205), funerals associated with David, and funerals associated with Herod, to illustrate his thesis that Josephus Romanizes his portrait of Judean funerals wuite markedly, though he refrains from attributing to the Judean wealthy funerals (pp. 274-5): imagines (possibly because of second commandment), music, and eulogy (perhaps because Herod was hated). Josephus turns out to be a very important source for Roman funerary customs (245-7)".
