Abstract: "Thinks that the inconsistencies in the text of Josephus, Vita 10-12, must lead to the conclusion that Josephus embraced Pharisaism after 70 CE. Before this time, he was most likely an Essene, cf. his education by Bannus. The author deals with the character of Essene education and with the "school" of Qumran, probably to be identified with room 4 of the Qumran settlement. It must be assumed that the novices of the sect could already write and read and that they had some knowledge of the Torah. The contents of the Qumran manuscripts and their frequency indicate the subject-matter taught in the "school" of Qumran".
