| Title: Charisma and the Disruption of the Family in Early Christianity Secondary Title: Die Vielfalt der Kultur. FS E. W. Müller zum 65. Geburtstag Pages: 278-287 Type: Book Section Year: 1990 Abstract: "The author analyzes the anti-family bias of Matthew and confronts it with the pro-family operation of 1 Timothy. The two views are representative of charismatic and institutionalized Christianity, respectively. The deceitful doctrine of 1 Tim 4:1-4 is identified as that represented by Matthew's gospel and the Matthean Jesus (Matt 19:11-12). "Receiving a child" in Matt 18,5 may refer to a hitherto unnoticed missionary strategy, that of adopting children in order to educate them in the new faith. This strategy is attested for the Essenes (Josephus, Jewish War 2:120) and the Manichaens". Keywords: New Testament / Early Christianity |
