| Title: Another Look at Josephus' Evidence for the Date of Herod's Death Secondary Title: SCI Volume: 14 Pages: 73-86 Type: Journal Article Year: 1995/1996 Abstract: in: AnPh 68 (1997), 232: "Among possible improvements on E. Schürer's theory (Aph 45, p. 602) the date in winter 4/3 B.C. seems the most preferable. It is perfectly compatible with Josephus' accounts of the king's death (BI 1,665; AI 17,191) and allows us to accomodate the date of Kislev 7, given by the scholion on Megillat Ta'anit".
"None of the existing theories about the precise date of Herod the Great's death is without difficulty. But the hypothesis that Herod died in the winter of 4/3 B.C. at Jericho seems to contradict no firm evidence and is limited to correcting two impressions created by Josephus' account". - D.J.H.
