| Title: Synagoga Caeca: Systematic Distortion in Gentile Interpretations of Evidence for Judaism in the Early Christian Period Secondary Title: To See Ourselves as Others See Us Pages: 219-246 Type: Book Section Year: 1985 Abstract: "A Greek inscription, discovered in 1976 in Aphrodisias in southwestern Asia Minor, includes a list of theosebeis (ca. A.D. 200). These do not belong to the elusive "God-fearers" but are probably gentile "good neighbors". At least for the Roman Diaspora, there is no conclusive evidence of a class of semi-gentiles called "God-fearers". These seem to be a fiction of the NT (Luke), cf. A. T. Kraabel in Numen 28 (1981), 113-126. - Two Greek inscriptions found in 1979 on the Greek island of Delos, dating from 200 and 100 B.C., constitute evidence of a Samaritan Diaspora. - Notes, bibliography".
