| Title: Which Salome did Aristobulus marry? Secondary Title: PEQ Volume: 118 Pages: 33-50 Type: Journal Article Year: 1986 Abstract: "Aus chronologischen Gründen kann es sich nicht um Salome, Tochter von Herodias, sondern nur um Herodias-Salomo, Tochter von Antipas handeln".
"A statement in Ant. 18:137 and a coin have long been used to establish the marriage between Aristobulus the king of Lesser Armenia and Salome, presumably the daughter of Herodias. But Aristobulus, who was unlikely to have been born before A.D. 32-33, could not have been married to this Salome, who was unlikely to have been born after 1 B.C. Aristobulus' wife must have been some other Herodian princess with the name of Salome. The person most favored by the textual and numismatic evidence is Herodias-Salome, the daughter of Antipas. This identification moves the demise of John the Baptist to A.D. 35 and Jesus' death to A.D. 36". - D.J.H. Keywords: Chronology and Calendar |
