| Title: Zion or Gerizim? The Association of Abraham and the Aqeda with Zion/Gerizim in Jewish and Samaritan Sources Secondary Title: Boundaries of the Ancient Near Eastern World: A Tribute to Cyrus H. Gordon Pages: 442-457 Type: Book Section Year: 1998 Abstract: Kaltner, John in: OTA 22.3 (1999), 504-505: "An examination of key texts on both sides of the issue which reflect Jewish/Samaritan disagreement regarding the location of Isaac's near sacrifice. Jewish sources, such as the biblical and pseudepigraphical texts, the Genesis Apocryphon, Pseudo-Eupolemus, Josephus' Jewish Antiquities, and Rabbinic literature all identify the Temple Mount as the site of the aqedah. Samaritan sources, including the Samaritan Pentateuch, Samaritan "midrashim", and sectarian legends, on the contrary, all point to Mt. Gerizim as the location. An appendix treats scholar's view on the erection, location and destruction of the Samaritan Temple on Mt. Gerizim". |
