ShikhinAsochis, Shihin, Hannathon, HannatonPlace descriptionAsochis was a village in the Galilee where a popular demonstration voiced support for
Josephus, according to Life 233. Josephus stayed there for a period, and its inhabitants
apparently supported him against the views of citizens of Tiberias (Life 384). The site
is north of and very close to Sepphoris. It probably had a large community of potters;
there are potsherds and coins of the Roman and Byzantine periods (Safrai, Strange, et
al., 1994). |
